Winnebago’s tournament run has ended one win shy of the State Tournament. The Indians lost 74-61 to Chicago Marshall at the 2A DeKalb Super-Sectional Monday night.

Winnebago trailed by only two points at halftime. The Indians stayed with Marshall until the fourth quarter when Marshall pulled away behind it’s pressure defense.

Marshall is coached by Illinois legend Dorothy Gaters. Her teams have won nine state championships over her coaching career including one last season.

Freshman Miyah Brown had a fantastic game for Winnebago. She scored 24 points. Senior Alyssa Thompson closed out her high school career with 21 points.

Winnebago coach Judy Krause was proud of her team’s effort. “I think they were just determined to sort of give it their all and say we’re just at talented (as Marshall). Maybe we don’t have the reputation that goes along with it but we’ve got a lot of heart. They give you their all and that’s all you can ask.”

Winnebago’s final record is 24-7. For highlights click on the media player.
