Rockford Christian Senior Brandon Ancona overcame some big odds to win the Sectional Singles championship at Harlem Saturday.
He battled thrown an abdominal injury by serving underhanded most of the day. And he had to defeat Auburn’s one-two punch of Tytus Metzler and Quinten Nevenhoven.
He defeated NEvenhoven in the semifinals 6-2, 6-3. He defeated Metzler in the finals 6-7, 6-1, 6-2.
All three singles players advance to State next week.
Hononegah took the top two doubles spots. Brandon Kim and Jerry Louh defeated their teammates Josh Euhus and Parker Hearne in the finals 6-2, 6-3.
Hononegah won the team championship with 28 points. Boylan was second with 19 and Rockford Christian was third with 18. Auburn took fourth with 17. Ten teams competed.
