Appino’s Vision Pays Off For Auburn

Thanks to the Auburn Knights the good time are back for RPS District 205 in football. The Knights are now three rounds deep into the playoffs.

Their record is 10-1. That’s a far cry from just a few years ago when Auburn won only one game total over four seasons. That was before Dan Appino left Boylan for Auburn.

Appino saw the potential in Auburn’s program. He and his assistant coaches have clearly tapped that potential guiding Auburn to it’s first NIC-10 championship and to the most wins in school history.

“I saw a bunch of tough, hard-working kids who were very athletic and talented who just were untrained and needed, we thought, a good system in place,” said Appino. “This is kind of what we envisioned that if they (the players) got on board and they bought in they could be successful.”

The Knights will play in the 7A quarterfinals Saturday. They’ll host 11-0 Glenbard West at 1:00 p.m.
