Rockford Boylan graduate Jake Smolinski will be getting some much needed at bats for a while, but not where he prefers to get them.

He has been assigned to Class AAA Nashville by the Oakland A’s. The A’s needed to free up a roster spot in order to activate pitcher Trevor Cahill from the disabled list.

Smolinski had an outstanding spring training, but he has struggled since the regular season began. He’s had only 34 at bats. His batting average is .118. He has two extra base hits and two RBIs.
