The top two tennis singles players in the NIC-10 are both headed to the IHSA State Tournament.
NIC-10 singles champion Tytus Metzler of Auburn High School won the 2A Harlem Sectional Championship at the Forest City Tennis Center in Rockford. Metzler defeated fellow Auburn Knight Quinten Nevenhoven 7-5, 6-3 in the title game. Those two plus Hononegah’s Brian Trefilek and Varun Menon are headed to state in the singles division.
The Hononegah pair of Hsing-Hao Louh and Parker Hearne won the doubles sectional championship. They defeated fellow Indians Brandon Kim and Josh Euhus in the final. Both pairs will head to state as will Guilford’s Alex Alveraz and Adam Gesmer and Auburn’s duo of Will Snedegar and Wyatt Morris.
Belvidere North’s Anderson Park, who finished second in the NIC-10 singles tournament, won a sectional title of his own on Saturday. Park defeated Boylan’s Adam Pycior 6-1, 6-1 in the 1A Rochelle Sectional final at Boylan’s Tennis Center. Those two as well as Keith Country Day’s Brandon Bodak and Rochelle’s Noah Griffin punched a ticket to state in singles.
The Blue Thunder pair of Josh Cassaro and Tommy Linken won the doubles sectional title at Boylan. They defeated Freeport’s top-seeded duo of Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier and Preston Engel 7-6, 6-4 in the final. Both pairs as well as Freeport’s team of Grant Luecke and Micah Schlesselman and North duo John Steward and Nick Jacobson will head to state.
The boys tennis state tournament will take place in Arlington Heights from Thursday, May 25th to Saturday, May 27th.
