Summer sports camps are in full swing this time of the year. This is one of the longest running ones in the Stateline. It’s the Rockford All-Star basketball camp now in its 36th year.
It’s currently held at Belvidere North High School. Boys and girls ages 7 to 17 are sharpening their skills with the help of an all-star cast of coaches that includes Rock Valley’s Misty Opat, Carl Armato, Dan Green, Bill Wihelmi and more.
Running the camp once again is former Guilford and Kansas basketball standout Dale Greenlee making his annual return from Indianapolis.
Greenless is always rejuvenated by being around kids who share a love of basketball.
“The kids are energizing! The excitEment of young boys and girls coming to camp, especially for the first time. The look in their eyes at the gym. All the other kids and they start playing with the balls it’s just a lot of fun,” says Greenlee.
“The main message we like to have them take away, we tell them Monday morning and every day is you want to be a great teammate. I said you can’t always be the best player on your team. You may not be the tallest, the fastest, the strongest but you can be the best teammate.”
The camp runs through Friday. For more information go to www.rockfordallstar.com.
