ROCKFORD, IL. — Rock Valley College has landed two great athletes in one package. Recent Boylan graduate Frankie Schiro has signed with RVC to play both women’s basketball and soccer.
Schiro was an All-NIC-10 player in both sports for the Titans.
A large gathering of family members and friends turned out at RVC Thursday evening as she officially signed with the school. In that group was Frankie’s older sister Jesse. She was on the women’s basketball team at RVC that finished second in the nation two years ago.
Schiro likes the idea of staying close to home. “My first year I think it’s good to stay home with my health and everything. I think this is the perfect fit for me especially because I couldn’t ever choose between basketball and soccer. To be able to play both here in my hometown is exciting!”
“Frankie is a true floor general at the point guard position,” says RVC women’s basketball coach Darryl Watkins. “She does a lot of the little things that people in the stands and everything like that don’t take notice.” Watkins coached against Schiro the last two seasons in the NIC-10 while he was at Auburn.
“She is an extremely talented player both on the offensive obviously and on the defensive side,” said RVC soccer coach Carrie Barker. “She is going to provide us with a huge attacking threat.”
