A handful of local golfers were down at state in Bloomington and Forsyth on Saturday, but the biggest story of the day came from Boylan High School’s boys. The team as a whole came in third place in Class 2A, but it was senior TJ Baker who stole the show. He is this year’s individual state champ, thanks to an impressive day that gave him his first hole in one at hole seven.
“It’s my first time at state,” Baker said. “It’s my senior year. My first hole-in-one. A lot of things went right today. It really hasn’t fully set in yet. Still really excited. It was just awesome.”
Baker shot 68 on the day, 134 on the weekend. He won by just one stroke.
In Class 1A, Winnebago senior Marcus Smith was trying to defend his individual state title but fell short. He finished in fifth place, shooting 78 on the day, 148 on the weekend.
