Boxer Angel Martinez now has his name written in the U.S. history books. The Auburn junior was presented a congressional record statement by Congresswoman Cheri Bustos Thursday at the high school library.
Martinez was recognized for winning his second USA amateur national championship in December. He also finished fifth in the World Championships in 2015.
Martinez started boxing when he was 10, and he hopes to one day compete in the Olympics.
“I got nervous all over shaking a little bit,” says Martinez of receiving his honor. “It’s an amazing honor and I’m grateful.” (sheri bustos, u.s. congresswoman) “
As a member of congress one of the greatest things I get to do is recognize extraordinary accomplishments,” says Bustos. “The reason i came here to present a congressional record for Angel Martinez is because he’s an exceptional young man!”
