Clendening leaves IceHogs, signs with Blue Jackets

One of the biggest reasons why the IceHogs made a deep playoff run this year was the play of defenseman Adam Clendening. He won’t be around next year to help them make another deep playoff run.

Clendening has signed a free agent deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. It’s a two-way NHL/AHL contract for one year. He’ll make $700,000 if he plays for the Blue Jackets. He’ll make $300,000 if he plays with their AHL affiliate the Cleveland Monsters. He is guaranteed $400,000.

Clendening joined the IceHogs in early January after a trade with Phoenix. He immediately became one of the IceHogs’ team leaders. In 59 regular season games he accounted for 35 points. He was even better in the playoffs when he had 14 points in 13 games. The IceHogs reach the Calder Cup Western Conference Finals

Clendening put out the following tweet Monday after agreeing to the deal with Columbus.
