Just like the NLDS the Cubs lose Game 1. Matt Harvey was lights out for the most part against the Cubs lineup. Harvey was perfect through the first four innings and ended his night pitching seven and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs and striking out nine.
Sterling Castro drove in the Cubs first run of the game in the fifth inning. Harvey ended his perfect bid one batter earlier when he hit Anthony Rizzo with a pitch. Then Castro knocked Rizzo in by ripping a line drive over the head of Juan Lagares in center field. The Cubs second run came from a Kyle Schwarber solo home run in the eighth.
The Mets offense scores early on Jon Lester. Daniel Murphy, who’s just been on fire during this postseason, hit a solo shot in bottom of the first to give the Mets an early lead. The Mets would then go on to add runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Lester gave up five runs on eight hits, and struck out five batters in over six innings of work.
Sunday will be another pitchers duel as the Cubs Jake Arrieta will take the mound verses the Met’s Noah Syndergaard. First pitch is slotted for 7:07pm CT.
