A comeback win in the Cubs home opener Monday and a 6-1 start has Cubs fans thinking this could be their year.
There is a positive energy around the fan base. They’ve been waiting all winter for this day, and they are very excited.
Cubs fans from all over the country came to Chicago to partake in Monday’s festivities including this couple from Belvidere, and another fan made the trip all the way from California.
“All the way from San Diego. I was here last year for the playoffs,” says Cubs fan Jeff Zlotnick. “I took my nephew to the game, and this year my dad, 72, and my brother. We came out to take my nephews to the game again.”
After going all the way to the NLCS last fall and a productive offseason Cubs fans have never been more anxious for baseball.
“This is a huge buzz. This is the best buzz I’ve ever been to on opening day so far,” says Belvidere resident and Cubs fan Paul Madsen.
There is World Series fever in Chicago itching to end it’s 108 year championship drought, and though some fans say it every year, they truly believe 2016 is their year.
“It’s the year for the Cubs,” says an Joey Bracco. “I know we say it every year. We’ve got the new stadium coming along. We’ve got the new clubhouse that opened up this year. This is finally the year for the Cubs.”
