Collin Delia stopped all 34 shots against in his first AHL shutout and Andreas Martinsen notched a pair of goals to propel the Rockford IceHogs to a 3-0 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in front of a sellout crowd of 6,440 at the BMO Harris Bank Center Saturday night.
The Hogs struck midway through the first, as Anthony Louis netted the eventual game-winner for his team-high 34th point of the season. Louis deflected home a Luc Snuggerud pass to put Rockford on the board.
The teams played scoreless hockey through the second period, but Martinsen tallied his first of two markers on the night just 10 seconds into the final frame, carrying the puck around the Penguins’ defense and willing it through netminder Etienne Marcoux.
Tempers flared throughout the remainder of the game, but Martinsen added an empty-netter to seal the 3-0 victory. With the win, Delia has won five of his last six starts, stopping at least 30 shots in three of those five victories.
Marcoux, who has played 30 games in 2017-18 with Rockford’s ECHL affiliate, the Indy Fuel, stopped 19 shots in his AHL debut.
