Dofflemyer Wins Women’s Classic

Two golfers in one final round. Rising star and Harlem High School senior Carson Racich against local veteran and 2011 City Champion Hui Chong Dofflemyer Friday in the Championship Match at the Rockford Country Club.

Racich drew first blood early with a beautiful chip shot that landed inches from the cup to lead 1-up after one. But Dolfflemyer strikes back on three with a chip shot of her own to square things with 15 to play.

Two holes later Dofflemyer gets in front. With Racich looking on she drains the eagle putt. Dofflemyer goes 1-up with thirteen to play.

Last two holes of the front nine, Dofflemyer still 1-up until Racich sank a putt for par to square things up, but Dofflemyer answered right back. She regained the lead at 1-up with a bogey heading into the back nine.

On 10, Dofflemyer increased her lead. She just missed a birdie putt attempt, but she won the hole with a par to go 2-up.

Four holes later, Dofflemyer still 2-up when the Harlem Huskie gets into a groove. Racich burried a birdie putt to cut the deficit in half. Then she won 15 with a par putt. Racich won back to back holes to square things up with three holes to play.

“It was really nice because I knew I had a shot. It put a confidence boost,” said Racich.

But the veteran Dofflemyer stayed cool. After landing in the bunker she digs herself out of with an incredible putt for par on 16 to swing the momentum back in her direction and go 1-up with two holes to play.

She wrapped the match up on 17 with this a chip shot that just missed the hole After 17 holes Dofflemyer defeated Racich 2 and 1 to capture her second women’s city title. Her first was in 2011.

(Hui Chong Dofflemyer, Classic Champion) “This win means a lot because I’m only getting older and all of these kids are getting stronger and better players so it means a lot,” said Dofflemyer. “I don’t think I’m going to get a lot more chances (to win) so it means a lot to me.”

“It’s an honor just getting this far into the Finals, and playing Hui Chong it’s great, because she’s a great player,” said Racich.
