WTVO/WQRF — It’s no dream. The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees really will play a Major League Baseball game at the movie location of ‘Field Of Dreams.’
It’ll happen in Dyersville, Iowa on Thursday, August 13, 2020. MLB released details on Thursday. The game will be played in a temporary 8,000 seat stadium built next to the field where the movie was filmed.
The stadium will be constructed with features that resemble the White Sox former home old Comiskey Park. The right field wall will have windows that will allow fans to see the cornfields behind the stadium. Fans who attend the game will walk along a path through a cornfield to get to the stadium.
“As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular season game to the site of Field of Dreams,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said. “We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa.”
Tickets are not available for purchase yet. MLB will release information on ticket availability in the future.
The game will be televised nationally by Fox. The game will be considered a White Sox home game. After playing that Thursday the White Sox and Yankees will have Friday off. Then they’ll resume their series at the White Sox current home Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday and Sunday according to the White Sox website.
