Former Rockford Peach Ruth “Richie” Richards has died at the age of 89.
Richards played eight seasons in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1947 through 1954. The Argus, Pennsylvania native began her career with the Grand Rapids Chicks where she played in the outfield. After one season she joined the Peaches and she was converted to catcher to take better advantage of her strong throwing arm.
She played six seasons with the Peaches. She was part of six playoff teams and three championship teams.
