Forreston’s Braedon Fyock delivered a regional championship for the Cardinals with his buzzer-beater three-point shot at the end of the fourth overtim to lift the Cardinals to a 48-45 win against Dakota.
Fyock’s shot came from outfront just to the right of the circle. The ball went through the hoop touching nothing but net. That was only one highlight of an amazing performance by the Forreston senior. He scored 34 of Forreston’s 48 points.
When asked about the winning basket Fyock said, “Honestly I wasn’t really thinking. I just came off a ball screen Hayden (Singley) and Mitch (Heinz) set me two good screens. I got the guy in the air on a pump fake and I turned and let it fly. I’m a good three-point shooter. I thought it was going in and it went in. Credit to my teammates. Congrats to them (Dakota) they were all over me too, but it felt good off the release. I thought it was going in.”
“The guys had a lot of courage,” said Forreston coach Jonathan Schneiderman of his team’s perseverence through four overtimes. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of Braedon Fyock. I don’t know if he’s missed three free throws in 25 games let alone in one night so he was very frustrated with that, so I think it was just fate that he was able to knock that shot down.”
Forreston advances to the East Dubuque Sectional next week. It will play #1 seed East Dubuque in the semifinals.
