For Rockford native Fred Van Vleet the start of his NBA career was a successful one. From going undrafted, to making the Toronto Raptors roster in training camp, Van Vleet logged critical minutes in Toronto’s final game of the season.
The Auburn product logged eight minutes in Game 4 of the East Semifinals against the reigning NBA Champions. Van Vleet logged nearly half of his time on the court in the final twelve minutes of the game. Fred Van Vleet knocked down his only three points with just under ten minutes left in the game to cut Cleveland’s lead to one. But the Cavaliers, led by Lebron James’ 35 points, pulled away late and swept the Raptors with a 109-102 win.
Van Vleet saw time in each of Toronto’s four games in the second round of the NBA playoffs. He combined for a total of 11 points, two assists, a rebound, and a steal while shooting over seventy-one percent from the field.
