Rock Valley College’s men’s basketball team is in full swing. The Golden Eagles are just over a month away from their season opener against Cedar Valley College.

Interim head coach Evan Lavery is at the helm now for the defending national champions. Lavery was an assistant under former coach Craig Doty the last three seasons, two of those seasons ending with a national championship. This year’s group is filled with young local talent including Belvidere’s DeAnte Barnes, and Guilford’s Elijah Pappas. Despite all the turnover the Golden Eagles expectations haven’t altered.

“The guys before us they’ve made a great legacy,” says freshman guard Malique Ross. “The only thing we can do is bust our butts, and go 1-0 every time we step on the court.”

“We have a good team,” says sophomore Dalton Menke. “We’re always looking for that national tournament win so that’s what we’re looking at.”

“The ultimate goal is to get back to a national championship and win it,” says Lavery. “But we’ve got a long way to go before that.”

Rock Valley’s regular season kicks off on November 5th at home.
