When the Iowa Hawkeyes take the field Saturday night at the Big Ten Championship game a former Stillman Valley Cardinal will be right there with them.
Adam Cox was on Stillman’s state championship team in 2009. Now he’s one of two players who split time at fullback for the Hawkeyes. He also contributes on special teams.
He’s an underdog who walked on as a freshman and fought his way onto the team and into the heart of head coach Rick Ferentz.
“The first time I saw Adam I was like, really,” said Ferentz at his Tuesday press conference. “You know I shouldn’t say that but he came out to a field on spring ball, but I tell you once you meet Adam Cox and once you meet his dad it’s like, ‘OK sign this guy up fast because he’ll knock something over’. A wall or whatever. Fortunately its players (that he’s knocking over) right now.”
NFL teams have taken notice of Cox’s physical play. Just this week the Packers were inquiring about information from Cox’s high school days.
