The Highland Community College girls basketball team had a road trip it won’t soon forget, and not because the girls were participating in the district playoffs.
The team’s charter bush crashed Saturday evening in Minnesota while on the way home from the tournament in North Dakota. The driver lost control of the bus. The bus was totaled.
Highland athletic director Pete Norman tells us that everyone is now home safe and sound. There were 16 players, coaches and staff members on the bus.
((Pete Norman, Highland A.D.)) “The girls all arrived back safely yesterday about 5:30 or so. The bus company brought up another charter. The bus company was totaled obviously and drove the girls back yesterday, so everybody is back safe, little bumps and bruises but nothing life-threatening or career-ending so we’re very grateful and thankful that it turned out the way it did.”
Norman couldn’t confirm a report that the drive of the bus had a medical issue that led to the accident. The bus driver is also home and okay.
