The IceHogs changed up their practice in a big way Tuesday evening by heading outdoors.
They practiced at Belvidere’s new Riverside Ice Arena off West Locust Street. They went for one hour while fans watched for free.
The rink just opened up a week ago. It’s impressive with boards, glass, and excellent lighting. The Hogs enjoyed the experience.
” I didn’t know how they were going to have ice out here it’s been so warm, but the ice was good. It was fun. It was cool the crowd out there,” says forward Jake Dowell.
“It kind of brings you back to your childhood days skating on the frozen pond or something,” says forward Garret Ross. “It was a good atmosphere. I know a lot of the guys enjoyed it and hopefully the fans did too.”
“I love the outdoor practices and the skate arounds,” says Hogs coach Ted Dent. “It’s the grass roots of hockey, and a lot of us grew up playing on outdoor rinks and it really brings you back to your roots.”
The IceHogs will be back indoors at the BMO Wednesday as they prepare for two big weekend games against division rivals Milwaukee and Chicago.
