Hononegah defeated Jefferson 62-57 Tuesday night to claim the championship of the Rockford East Summer League.
Trent DeVries made some clutch ‘threes’ down the stretch to boost the Indians. Both teams went at it hard battling for loose balls. Winning the East Summer League can give a team some momentum to build on for the regular season which starts in November.
“It gives us confidence,” said DeVries. “We’re just ready. We have that fuel. We’re ready. We’re a lot better than last year.”
“I think it gives us great confidence going into the year that when we execute our stuff and play our system that we can have a lot of success,” said Hononegah coach Mike Miller. “I couldn’t be more proud of the kids how hard they played.”
Hononegah won the league championship despite being without 6’4 Jarrett-Strate-Lutzow who was out with an injury.
