Hononegah’s basketball team has earned summer bragging rights. The Indians have won the East High School Summer League.
The Indians defeated Beloit Memorial 51-41 in the championship game Tuesday night. Kameron Kolberg scored 22 points to led the winning effort.
Earlier Hononegah advanced to the championship game by defeating East 57-47 in the semifinals.
Hononegah won the league despite playing without two of its best players center Max Miller and point guard Josh Donaldson. They opted to participate in summer camps at Marquette and at NIU.
“That was our goal coming in to this to end up winning the whole thing. We’re playing without two of our starters too, so that actually put a little more weight on our shoulders, but I thought our team did very good at coming back and ended up winning the whole thing,” said Kolberg.
“I tell you our guys had a great summer,” said Hononegah coach Mike Miller. ” Everything that I wanted to accomplish this summer we did.”
East took the consolation game by beating Auburn 52-45.
