Normally at this point of March the basketball’s would be packed up and put away at NIU. Not this year.
The Huskies were back on the practice court Tuesday afternoon and they’ll have plenty more practices to go now that they’ve accpeted an invitation to the Vegas 16 Tournament. The eight team event will run March 28-30th in Vegas.
This will be the Huskies first postseason tournament appearance in 20 years since the 1996 team went to the NCAA Tournament.
It’s the Huskies’ reward for posting 21 wins this season.
“Just getting to the postseason is great experience. We still have a young team and we get a chance to practice a couple more weeks. Get a chance to do some team bonding,” said NIU coach Mark Montgomery.
“We wanted to reward this season. 21 and 12, outstanding,” says NIU Director of Athletics Sean Frazier. “It was a major accomplishment and we need to keep this momentum going.”
Every game of the Vegas 16 will be shown on the CBS Sports Network. NIU’s first opponent will be UC-Santa Barbara.
