Huskies Seek MAC West Lead

Sports

It could be winner-take-all Thursday night when NIU takes on Toledo in a MAC West football showdown.

Those two teams are tied for the MAC West lead with 4-0 records. The Huskies have a lot of momentum behind them with a four-game winning streak. They’ve been clicking on defense all season. They’ll need to continue that Thursday.

The Rockets’ offense is rocket-like. They’re averaging more than 40 points per game. Toledo’s quarterback Logan Woodside is the best in the MAC. He leads the conference in passing yardage.

“He’s got complete command of the offense,” says NIU coach Rod Carey. “Certainly he’s checking some things at the line of scrimmage, but he throws the ball extremely well and he’s good enough to get out of harms way, so it’s going to be a challenge for our defense.”

That game kickoff at 5 p.m. Central Time. It’ll be shown on ESPNU.
