The Rockford IceHogs dropped their home opener against the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-2 Saturday night. Anton Wedin gave Rockford the first goal of the night, but the Griffins’ Jarid Lukosevicius’ next goal tied things up at 1 in the first. Grand Rapids added two more goals from Michael Rasmussen and Filip Zadina in the second. Dylan Sikura kept the IceHogs hopes alive with another goal, but the Griffins proved to be too much as they went home with a 4-2 win.
The Blackhawks’ 2019 third overall draft pick, forward Kirby Dach was assigned to the IceHogs on a conditioning stint, giving him a chance to make his professional debut on Saturday. He took two shots and did not score. Dach played in all three periods.
“Obviously it felt pretty good,” Dach said. “The first shift, shift and a half kind of nervous a little bit my first pro game so, trying to take it a little bit of a step back and just see what it’s about and then after that I kind of felt comfortable. I know there’s long road ahead of me still and I’ve got to take this journey one step at a time.”
The IceHogs take on the Laval Rockets on Monday, October 14th at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
