IceHogs not only winning, but winning in dramatic style

The IceHogs are having a whole lot of fun playing hockey these days.  That will happen you win nine out of 11 games.

Several of those games have been comeback wins. For instance Wednesday night the IceHogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Griffins in Grand Rapids 3-2. The IceHogs won when Luke Johnson knocked in a rebound for the game-winning goal with less than a second remaining in overtime.

“I think there was like 13 seconds left and a faceoff in our zone and I just tried to win it,” said Johnson explaining the final seconds leading up to his goal. “Jokiharju got off the ice quick and made a nice drop pass to Graham and I wasn’t sure how much time was left and the puck just kind of popped out to me so it was nice to see that one go in before the buzzer.”

“Even if we’re down we’re confident enough where we know we can put some pucks in the net now and we get that one opportunity and it goes in for us,” said IceHogs coach Derek King. “It just seems the hockey gods as you like to say are on our side now.”

Newcomer Peter Holland suited up for the IceHogs’ game in Grand Rapids. He immediately contributed with two assists. He came over in a trade this week from the New York Rangers organization. He thinks he’s a good fit with the IceHogs.

“I love the way the guys played,” said Holland. “They played a fast style of hockey. We tried not to spend too much time in our own zone and push the other team back on their heels. That’s the way I like to play so hopefully I’ll continue fitting in.”

The IceHogs next game will be Saturday evening in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
