The IceHogs are a week away from playoff action and it’s still anybody’s guess what their roster will look like when they play their first game.
Will forwards Dennis Rasmussen and Brian Bickell be a part of that roster? They were reassigned to the IceHogs by the Blackhawks on Monday. But it could be a brief stay in Rockford for one or both players.
They’re back because the Backhawks needed to make room for an extra defenseman since Duncan Keith is suspended for their playoff game Wednesday night in St. Louis. So the Blackhawks promoted David Rundblad and they sent down the other two players. But when Keith becomes active later in the week they all could be trading places again.
“There’s some circumstances. I guess they wanted to have with Duncan Keith one more game on his suspension, and they wanted seven healthy ‘D’ up there, so me and Rasmussen came down yesterday,” said Bickell Tuesday after the IceHogs practice. “I don’t know what’s going to happen after tomorrow’s game. We could both be going up. I don’t know, so we’ll just play it day by day, like I said and play some good hockey down here.
“I’m here to play hockey. Hockey is always fun,” says Rasmussen. “I enjoy seeing the guys here today and I’m trying to have a positive attitude.”
The other unknown is will goaltender Michael Leighton be back for the IceHogs in the playoffs? Now that Corey Crawford is apparently healthy the Blackhawks could spare Leighton. He might be the biggest key to the IceHogs playoff hopes.
IceHogs coach Ted Dent says he has no idea what the Blackhawks’ plans are for Leighton. “Obviously we’d love to have him back. He’s been a big part of our team through the course of two seasons, so no word on that yet really. Again play it day by day.”
