Illinois won its second straight Big Ten Championship in Men’s Golf. The team set a Big Ten Championship record after shooting a three-round score of 838. The Illini’s Thomas Detry finished first individually at 10-under and Charlie Danielson finished one stroke behind him at 9-under. The team win earns them the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
“We told each other yesterday we got to embrace it and have fun,” says Detry. “I think everybody had fun on the course, and we did a great job embracing it and having fun and making birdies.”
“I think we’re getting a taste of what an NCAA Tournament championship feels like,” says Illinois golfer Dylan Meyer, who finished at 2-under. “This is the first leg out of the three. We did the same thing last year, but I think this year we’re going to come back a little bit stronger.”
