Katelyn Sayyalinh wins the Greater Rockford Women’s Golf Classic

ROCKFORD, IL — She’s still in high school, but Katelyn Sayyalinh owns the title of the best female golfer in the Rockford area for this year. Sunday at the Aldeen Golf Club she won the Greater Rockford Women’s Golf Classic.

The Guilford senior defeated Harlem High School graduate and current Lamar University golfer Carson Racich 4 & 2 in the finals of match play. The two golfers were even as they headed to the back nine. Sayyalinh then won holes 10, 13, 15, and 16 to take the match.

“My goals were just to play my best and have fun,” said Sayyalihn following the match. “I’m very overwhelmed that I won today. I was kind of nervous. I knew I had to bring my best game so I had to work on my putts on the back nine down the front. “

“I’ve been playing against Carson since we were younger and she’s a really great golfer so it means a lot to play against her and win overall.”

“I’m pretty proud of myself to make it to the finale,” said Racich. “It’s a big accomplishment to make it this far and to win matches because match play is not easy, so I’m pretty proud of myself there.”

It’s the second time Racich has finished second in this tournament. In 2016 she finished second to Hui Chong Dofflemyer.
