Kennedy Middle School has its first basketball team ever to qualify for the state tournament and the excitement over that showed Friday afternoon.
A pep rally was held in the gymnasium for the 7th grade girls team which will compete this weekend in Normal.
The girls were given a strobe light introduction similiar to what the Bulls had during their ’90s dynasty. Then they presented their Regional and Sectional Championship awards to school administrators.
Kennedy’s cheerleaders performed and the school even did an all-school mannequin challenge at then end.
Kennedy is one of eight teams that will compete in Class 4A. The 14-2 Wildcats will open with a game against 21-2 Edwardsville Liberty Saturday morning at 11:30.
“We work together and we’ve worked hard for this,” says Kennedy basketball player Zhakyla Evans. “How we all came together and at the end of the day we’ll be mad at each other at the end of the game, but we still stick together and try to win.”
