The Auburn Knights used a dominant second half to knock off Algonquin Jacobs Tuesday night at the Rock Valley College 4A Sectional.
The Knights had issues with Jacobs’ 6-9 center Cameron Krutwig in the first half. He scored 20 points and the Knights led by only one point at halftime.
But the Knights turned up the defense in the second half and they held Krutwig to six points the rest of the way. The Knights won big 58-39.
“I really thought the second half the guys understood where our errors were. That we were not getting enough pressure on the guards. That that had to happen,” says Auburn coach Bryant Ott.
“Their 6-9 guy was their go-to guy. As long as you keep the ball out of his hands we could win the game because the other guys they don’t want the ball,” said Auburn center Shidyae Evans.
Evans led the Knights with 22 points.
Auburn advances to the Sectional Championship game Friday night against the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Priarie Ridge and St. Charles East.
