Michael Leighton shares the AHL career record for shutouts. After Friday night he could own it.
Leighton will go after his 46th shutout when the IceHogs host Grand Rapids at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Leighton got his 45th shutout in his last outing before the All-Star break. That tied him with legendary goaltender Johnny Brower.
So how quickly does Leighton want to wrap up this record and put all the hoopla behind him?
“Obvously I want to get it as quick as I can, but that doesn’t happen all the time,” said Leighton to Eyewitness News Thursday. “I’ve got to be patient with it, and I’ve just got to keep playing the way I’ve been playing and doing what I’ve been doing, and hopefully it happens sooner rather than later.”
Tuesday Leighton was named the AHL’s goaltender of the month for January. He was unbeaten in regulation in ten starts.
