ROCKFORD, Il. (WTVO) – Young local athletes can spend part of their Saturday this weekend brushing up on the fundamentals of football. Auburn coaches JP Toldo and Jerry Lowe are putting on their first middle school football camp at Auburn’s Wyeth stadium. It’s open to all kids entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. Several college football players who are graduates of local schools are helping out with the camp. Lunch is provided, prizes are given out and campers receive t-shirts.

“We’re trying to keep the younger kids off the streets during the summer [and give] them something to do,” Auburn’s assistant Coach Jerry Lowe said. “[We] also teach them about the fundamentals of football and educational. We’re really stressing education. We’ll have somebody here at the camp who will talk to them about education.”

The camp runs from 8 AM until 1:30 PM on Saturday at Auburn. It’s free and kids can sign up that same morning.
