Lutheran Gives Sendoff To State Golfers

The State-bound girls golf team at Lutheran got a send-off from their fellow classmates during a school assembly.

The Lady Crusaders will be one of 12 teams competing in the 1A State Tournament this weekend at Red Trail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

The Crusaders recently won the 1A Lena Regional and they took second behind Boylan at the 2A Rock Falls Sectional.

The Crusaders are led by sophomore Natalie Hooper. She finished tenth at State as an individual last year. Junior Caitlin Schoepfer is the Crusaders number two golfer. The other varsity golfers are Finley Rock, Emily Althof, Megan Larson and Ashlyn Luckey.

Lutheran’s best finish ever in girls golf at  State was fifth place in 2008. They finished sixth in 2012. This team might be able to top what those two did.

“I’m pretty confident,” says Hopper. “We’ve made a lot of progress from last year’s team to this year’s team. We’ve added a few new people who are really good players.”

“They’re all super girls, and I think we’re going to do it,” says head coach Joe Lodico.
