Lutheran graduate Wieting ready for heated rivalry with Iowa State

(WTVO/WQRF) — Rockford Lutheran graduate Nate Wieting will find himself in the middle of a heated Iowa rivalry Saturday. He’ll suit up for the Hawkeyes while they take on Iowa State in Ames.

“It’s going to be a hostile environment. I know we come out right in front of their student section, right in front of the band. It’s going to be a loud environment. Fans are going to be rowdy. It’s a great place to play and that’s a great atmoSphere. As a competitor that’s what you want in a football game.”

Wieting is a senior tight end for the Hawkeyes. He has already earned his undergraduate degree.

Iowa has won the last four meetings between these rivals. The Hawkeyes are off to a 2-0 start this season. The Cyclones are 1-0. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series trophy will go to the winner.

The game will be shown on Fox Sports1 at 3 p.m. Central Time.
