Rockford boxer Angel Martinez has his Golden Gloves Championship. Now he’s going after another title.
This week he’s in Charleston, West Virginia competing in USA Boxing’s Junior Olympic and Prep National Championships. Martinez finished second at the Junior Olympics two years ago. He suffered an early exit last year.
Martinez recently had a two-week training sting in Colorado at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. He says that time was well spent making him a better boxer.
“It was an entirely different atmosphere. I was training with the best in the country and everyone was pushing each other and the climate was different and the altitude was stressful but after a couple days I got my body regulated. And the coaches that were training me were some of the best coaches in the world. So it was a good experience.”
After the Junior Olympics Martinez will head back to Colorado for more training. In August he’ll head to Frankfurt, Germany for the Brandenburg Cup Tournament.
