Rockford’s Junior Olympics boxing champion and Golden Gloves national champion is ready for his next fight.
Angel martinez will step into the ring this Saturday night in Rockford. He’ll compete on a ten-fight amateur card in an eent called the ‘Screw City Fall Brawl.’ It’ll be held at the Lombardi Club.
Promoter Jimmy Goodman has lined up some talented young fighters from throughout the Midwest. Three of the are boxers that he trains. One is Martinez. Martinez fights all over the world now. This is a rare chance for local fans to see him fight in person.
“You always hear about us fighting in big tournaments going around the country and around the world, and they never really get to see us but probably once or twice a year, so this is our chance to show our hometown what we’ve got,” says Martinez.
I want to try to showcase him whenever I can here in town,” says Goodman. “He’s only got a couple years left before he turns pro. So how many more times does that allow him to compete here in town? This is one of your opportunities when you’ll be able to see him.”
The doors will open at 6 p.m. Saturday evening at the Lombardi Club. The fights will begin at 7 p.m.
The Lombardi Club is located downtown at 201 Olive Street.
