NIU Summer Circuit Hits Rockford

Sports

NIU’s coaches never tire of talking NIU sports. Tuesday night they had ample opportunity to do that.

NIU’s summer circuit made a stop at  Franchesco’s in Rockford. Coaches from all the men’s and women’s sports teams were there to meet with alumni and fans. It was a great year for women’s ports. NIU won the MAC All-Sports trophy known as theJacoby Award.

The cloud hanging over NIU is the lack of funding coming in from the state because there is no state budget. That has force NIU Director of Athletics Sean Frazier to get creative in fundraising and in keeping the programs operating on a healthy level.

“There’s been a lot of adversity, a lot of challenges as you can imagine at our university,” says Frazier. “Our senior administration have navigated through that. We have continued to navigate through that, but this has been some significant hardship to us and we’ve had to reinvent ourselves. That’s why we’ve launched the ‘Campaign To Sustain.’ That’s why we’ve been a little bit more intentional and deliberate in how we do things and take a look at things.”

NIU’s summer circuit is also visiting Aurora, Downer’s Grove and Crystal Lake.
