Oregon Ready To Battle Again In The Big Northern.

For Oregon 2015 was an uncommon occurrence on the football field. The Hawks missed the playoffs for just the second time in 10 years. Now they’re putting the work in to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
“I’ve been very impressed with the attitude of our kids, the way they’ve gone about their business,” says Oregon coach John Bothe. “I think we have a very high character group which has made things really smooth.”

“We’ve been putting in a lot of work this summer, hitting the weight room hard, and just a lot of reps,” says lineman Anthony Marchetti.

A big part of the Hawks’ struggles last season was injuries. For a small school like Oregon injuries have a huge impact.

“We’ll have some players playing both ways like a lot of teams do. You know one of those guys goes down its like losing two starters,” says Bothe.

Last year’s starting quarterback Chad Chenoweth tore his ACL early in 2015, and now he’s in a battle with Andrew Newman for the starting position.

“Andrew’s a track kid,” says Bothe. “He’s got good speed. He’s a taller, longer kid.  Chad’s strong. During his ACL rehab he did a really great job of building up his body. He’s strong. So they’re two different body types, but they’ve both done a good job running the offense right now.”

Whoever the starter will be, he’ll have a productive offensive line in front of him. The battle in the trenches features four seniors with plenty of experience.

“Those three, four guys are going to help both offensive and defensive lines,” says Bothe. “They’ve been battle tested, you know been in a lot of varsity games.”

“We’re tough, we don’t stop, we don’t stop our feet, and we’re strong,” says Marchetti.

And the Hawks are ready to return to Oregon style football.

“I’m very confident we’re going to bounce back this year,” says senior cornerback/fullback Will Rice. “We’ve got a real fast team, and I feel like we’re going to give it our all.”
