Sometimes the Blackhawks take talent from the IceHogs, sometimes they add talent to the IceHogs. The latter is the lastest case with the Blackhawks returning forwards Andreas Martinsen and Dylan Sikura to Rockford.
Martinson was with the IceHogs during their deep playoff run last season. He gives the IceHogs a physical, veteran presence. Sikura gives them a finese scorer.
Sikura is certain to wind up back in Chicago at some point. He’s considered one of their top prospects, if not their best one.
Both Sikura and Martinsen say they’ll do whatever it takes to help the IceHogs win and whatever it takes to help each of them get back to the Blackhawks.
“I think I can fit in up there (in Chicago) but it’s about being a difference-maker,” said Sikura Tuesday morning after practice at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford. “That’s the kind of player I think I am is I like to have the puck and be making plays. Up there you’re kind of chasing it around a lot. You use the time down here to kind of figure out your game and find out how to get those pucks back and be able to make plays.”
“I’m here to play a lot and I played a lot last game (Sunday night), so it’s different for me,” said Martinsen. “I’m just trying to have fun and enjoy all the ice time and try to win some games and maybe we can get in the playoffs.”
The two men and the rest of the IceHogs will head out on a Texas road trip this week. The IceHogs will play one game against the Texas Stars and two against the San Antonio Rampage.
