Reynolds Jr. out to defend his late model championship at the Rockford Speedway

When the dust settles after every season as the Rockford Speedway you can be sure that Jon Reynolds Jr. of Loves Park will be in or near the top three in the final Late Model division standings. He’s aiming high again this year.

As usual Reynolds is driving the car with the  Big X on it the 104.9 car.  He is the defending Late Model season points champion.  He won the division last year.  He was also the NASCAR Whelen Ilinois State Champion. How will he top all that?

“I don’t know if you can to it or not, but we’ll just try to repeat. That would be fun to try right?”

How good does Reynolds feel about his car this year?

“Really good. We did strip it down and give her some love she needed and some fresh parts but bascially it’s the same exact setup, the same stuff so, the same engine we just refreshed a bit.”

Reynolds’ championship last year was his second at the Rockford Speedway in the Late Model Division. His first was in 2014.  He has also been the champion at Slinger Speedway and in the Big 8 Series in his career. He’s been racing at the Rockford Speedway since 2003.

“We won our first feature in ’04,” said Reynolds.

Reynolds says he still gets as fired up at the start of each season as he did back in the beginning.

“Yea you get nervous.”

Reynolds is expecting a tight competition for the Late Model championship this year. He has some good folks on his crew to support him in his quest to repeat.
“We’ve got a truckload of guys that come help us out. It’s a good group of guys. We’ve been together quit a few years now already.”

Reynolds finished sixth in the first late model feature race of the season at the Rockford Speedway two weeks ago. They were rained out this past Saturday.
