After getting run out of Madison with a 19-5 loss on Thursday, the Rivets were eager to get a victory as they returned home.
They did just that. Cole Bellair (Illinois) led Rockford (6-5) to its fourth win in five games as the Rivets went off on Fond du Lac’s pitching staff. Adam Eck (Edgewood College) took the loss for the Dock Spiders, who dropped to 3-8 on the season.
Bellair (1-1) gave up a run in the top of the first, but Rockford quickly struck back. Newcomer JC DeMuri (Quincy University) had a bases-clearing double for his first at-bat of the season, and the Rivets capitalized off a Fond du Lac error to take a 4-1 lead heading into the second.
From there, Rockford never trailed. Fond du Lac added two runs in the sixth off Bellair, but he managed to get out of the inning with Rockford still leading 6-4. The score really broke open in the bottom of the sixth, when Fond du Lac outfielder AJ Lewis (Missouri) dropped a fly ball, allowing two Rivets to score. John Rave (Illinois State) then drove in two more on a single off Matt Richey (Bradley University) to extend the score to 10-4.
Jeremy Orbik (Stetson) and Brad Littleton (Indiana) combined for three scoreless innings of relief as Rockford cruised to an 11-4 win.
