For the second night in a row, the Rockford Rivets held on to a one-run lead and beat the Green Bay Bullfrogs, 3-2, on Thursday at Rivets Stadium.
Rockford completed a two-game series sweep when Green Bay stranded the possible tying run at third base. In Wednesday’s series opener, a 4-3 win, the Bullfrogs also left the potential tying run on base.
Three Rockford pitchers combined on a six-hitter. Starter Cory Wright went seven innings for the win. Wright (3-1), from Parkland Community College, gave up two runs on five hits.
Joe Romero pitched a hitless eighth inning and Zach Olszewski earned the save for the second night in a row. In the ninth, Olszewski gave up a two-out triple to Jonah Davis, but retired Laren Eustace on a grounder to first to earn his fifth save of the season.
Austin Hancock (1-5) gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits over five innings, and took the loss. The Rivets were hitless against the Green Bay bullpen.
Rockford led from the second inning on. Jordan Hovey, from Missouri State, tripled in two runs in the second to give the Rivets a 2-1 lead.
The Rivets face The Lakeshore Chinooks at Rivets Stadium 6:35 p.m. Friday for Zooperstars night.
