Thursday was one big day for a Rockford man who has made a huge impact on the tennis community.
Forest City Tennis Center head pro Danny Beeman received the Cap Leighton Award from the U.S. Tennis Association. Beeman was honored for his contributions in teaching and promoting the sport. Adding to the moment was the fact that Thursday was also Beeman’s birthday.
“I was very surprised (about receving he award),” says Beeman. “With the USTA they’ve told me that they appreciate what we’re doing, and it’s just nice. It nice to know that they enjoy and have confidence in what we’re trying to do in Rockford.”
Beeman has helped being Transform Tennis, a group of people that is trying to revive the sport in the Forest City. He has also pushed short-court tennis, a game played on smaller courts for kids.
