(Scott) JOSH HOW EXCITED ARE YOU TO SIGN WITH YOUR HOMETOWN TEAM AND HOW DID THIS CONTRACT DEAL COME ABOUT?
(Josh McArdle) “The excitement level is pretty crazy. There’s not really many words to describe it right now. As far as the contract went my agent is kind of handling all of it. I had known that it was maybe going to be a possibility and obviously I was hoping for the best but they reached out to me and once I knew that it was a for sure thing it wasn’t too much of a thought. I did it right away. It’s honestly the best thing I can imagine a chance to move my forward and come back to the place where it all started.”
(Scott) I ASSUME WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER THAT YOU WENT TO A LOT OF ICEHOGS GAMES?
(McArdle) “Oh yea. I grew up going to IceHogs’ games. I would honestly say that’s probably what got me into the sport. I was going probably when I was seven or eight years old I used to go all of the time.”
(Scott) YOU GOT A LITTLE PRO EXPERIENCE THIS SPRING IN THE ECHL WITH WORCESTER. HOW DID THAT GO FOR YOU AND DO YOU FEEL YOU’RE READY TO WIN A JOB AT THE AHL LEVEL?
(McArdle) “Yea. My experience actually it went great for me. I was able to jump in right away. College hockey now a days is very strong. The level is really high so I jumped in there. I got a lot of confidence. Obviously I know there’s a lot of work ahead of me. Signing is only the first step. I’m hoping to have a really big summer out east here training. Head into camp in September ready to compete and earn a spot on the roster.”
(Scott) YOU LED BROWN IN PENALTY MINUTES LAST SEASON. SHOULD WE READ INTO THAT THAT BEING A PHYSICAL PLAYER IS YOUR GAME?
(McArdle) “I would definitely say there’s a physical aspect to my game and it’s something that I definitely brought out on the college level as I got older. It’s actually kind of been a part of my game for a long time. I would say it’s the best, most standout part of my game. I’m definitely a fast player, a puck-moving player. I’m really strong defensively, but in order to be strong defensively in my mind I think you have to be pretty physical. It’s definitely something that you’ll be seeing.”
(Scott) YOU’RE THE FIRST PLAYER FROM ROCKFORD’S YOUTH HOCKEY PROGRAM TO SIGN WITH THE ICEHOGS. HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU STARTED IN THAT PROGRAM AND HOW IMPORTANT WAS THAT PROGRAM FOR YOUR DEVELOPMENT AND YOUR LOVE OF THE SPORT OF HOCKEY?
(McArdle) “Ever since I started hockey I was probably seven or eight years old I was in the Rockford program. I played all the way up through my freshman year of high school. It was an incredible experience. All of the coaches I’m still in contact with today. All of my best friends on those teams are still my best friends today. I think it prepared me well. I only played two seasons of club hockey outside of that and I was right into the top junior league in the U.S. so I would put a lot of emphasis on what Rockford did for me and it got me to this level.”
