Rutta making the transition from the Blackhawks to the IceHogs

Defenseman Jan Rutta is fitting in with the IceHogs adjusting to his new teammates and his new surroundings.

Rutta was assigned to Rockford late last week. HE showed promise with the Blackhawks last season. He scored the second most goals of any defenseman on the team.

“I’m getting used to the league, used to the players,” said Rutta after practice Tuesday morning in Rockford. “I feel the progress. I hope I can bring the presence to both ends of the ice; contribute on the power play and be effective on the PK also.”

“He’s a pro,” said IceHogs’ head coach Derek King. “Our young guys are going to learn from him. He’s smooth with the puck. He defends well and when the play is there he makes the right decision with the puck, so it’s nice to have him.”

Rutta and the IceHogs will host the Milwaukee Admirals Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford.
