Guilford sophomore Katelyn Sayyalinh and Harlem senior Austin Young posted the top overall scores Friday in the Greater Rockford Boys’ and Girls’ Golf Classic.
Sayyalinh posted rounds of 72-80 for a 152 total. She beat out a field of competitors that included Harlem’s Carson Racich (78-77-155), Lutheran’s Natalie hooper (79-79-158), and Boylan’s Jessica Slattery (81-80-161).
:It was great because they were really great competitors, and I had to work very hard to get there,” said Sayyalinh of her victory.
This was a really big improvement since the last tournaments I played this week,” said Racich. “Really I was just coming out to play from that, and it’s just icing on the cake to come back and be able to win it (the 17-18 age division).”
Young posted rounds of 69-69 for a 138 total to edge Grant Germano (68-71-139) by one stroke. It’s the second straight year Young has won the Boys’ Classic.
“I have not shot four under in a two-day tournament ever, so that’s my best two-day tournament so I’m pretty, pretty happy about that,” said Young.
