Rockford is known for hosting soccer tournaments. The one being stage here this weekend might be the biggest one yet.
It’s the Premier SuperCopa. The opening ceremony was held Wednesday evening before a packed crowd at Rivets Stadium. 92 boys team and 64 girls teams are here to compete.
The kids range in age from nine to 12. They are some of the most talented players in the nation in their age group.
Premier SuperCopa is the only National Championship level tournament in the country that focuses on young teams. The tournament started in Dallas in 2013.
The games will begin Thursday and run through Sunday at MercyHealth Sportscore 2.
